Don’t mistake this article as an April Fool prank. Yes, director Abhinay Deo is releasing his debut film Game on April Fools' Day (April 1) but he is not here to fool the public. The fact that he has stuck to the scheduled release date in spite of the present frenzy over cricket, sends out the message that he is very sure of his product.
Many may question Abhinay’s idea of releasing Game at a time when cricket fever is on a new high. Indians all over the world are yet to settle down after India’s thrilling win against its arch rival Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 semi final match. Another big match is up on Saturday (April 2) where India play Sri Lanka for the World Cup title. But Abhinay is unperturbed by all these. He is confident that Game would do well at the box office.
In fact, it looks like Game will benefit from the ongoing Cricket World Cup. It’s worth taking the risk because people are in celebration mood at this point of time. Many may celebrate India’s win against Pakistan by catching up a film or two. And if India beats Sri Lanka in the final and lift the cup this weekend, people could flock to the theatres in delirium.
Well, Game is a mystery thriller and not related to cricket or any other game for that matter but people would do anything when they are happy. Anything can happen to this film starring Abhishek Bachchan, Sarah Jane Dias, Jimmy Sheirgill and Kangana Ranaut – as unpredictable as the India-Pakistan match.
Watch out for Game!
